Landscape As a Site of Memory Capsules Artist Studios

︎Workshop by Azadeh Elmizadeh & Shahrzad Jahan

This workshop took the form of a collective mark-making exercise using pigments on cutouts in shape of birds and flames. Grounded in gestures of ritual and grief, it invited participants into a process of reflection, where marks became traces of presence and loss.

The session was held as a space of gathering for care, participants engaged in the mark-making process or simply stayed present, as the space remained open to conversation and quiet reflection.

Ten participants came together, each mark their own, each piece part of something larger. The individual birds were assembled into one collective work, inspired by the ancient Persian story of the Simorgh — thirty birds who, in their togetherness, became one.
